What Is Lagos Life?

Lagos Life is the viral free life-sim set in Lagos, Nigeria. Think The Sims, but online: a shared city where you build a Sim, hustle for naira, and meet thousands of real players. Here's the full picture.

A Lagos life-sim, inspired by The Sims

Lagos Life is a browser life-simulation game created by Nigerian developer Shalom Rayhamen. It takes the core of The Sims 3 — create a character, keep their needs met, earn money, decorate a home — and rebuilds it around Lagos, Nigeria, with local food, slang, places and culture. That's why players call it 'Lagos Life Sims' or 'the Lagos Sims game'.

You start in a small flat with a handful of naira (₦). From there you eat, sleep, work, shop and socialise, slowly climbing from a one-room hustle toward money and status.

The twist: it's a shared, multiplayer world

Unlike the single-player Sims, Lagos Life is online. Everyone who logs in shares the same Lagos. A counter at the top shows how many thousands of players are online right now. You travel a 3D map of real Lagos spots, bump into other players, chat and DM them, build relationships and families, and compete on an in-game 'Forbes' rich list.

It's often described as 'a social media platform wrapped around a game' — the life-sim is the surface, but the real pull is doing it alongside real Nigerians and the diaspora.

Why it blew up

Lagos Life crossed 100,000 users within weeks and regularly has 10,000+ people online at once. It rode Nigerian social media and the Lagos-game wave started by hits like Lagos Run. The cultural specificity is the charm: riding danfo, eating amala at Shitta, partying at Quilox, surviving NEPA — in-jokes every Lagosian recognises.

It's free, needs no download, and runs on any phone — low friction that let it spread fast among players in Lagos, Abuja and beyond, plus Nigerians in London, the US, Canada and Accra.
